In a saturated market of exercise and perfume, an unusual combination mediated by 'Wellness' is gaining attention. On the afternoon of the 1st, the wellness experience program ‘Pilates & Scent’, which combines Pilates and perfumery, was held at ‘Ordinary Yoga’ in Gyeonggi-do Gimpo.

This program is the second project planned in collaboration between Hong Seok-jun, the rehabilitation team leader of Wellive Lounge, who is a former orthopaedic physiotherapist, and perfumer Ahn Sol. After its debut during the Christmas season last year, it was once again arranged in response to the high interest of citizens seeking rest and healing beyond exercise.

‘Pilates & Scent’ organically connects the precise breathing techniques of Pilates with the sensory elements of perfumery. Participants experienced a five-step scent trial in sync with Pilates breathing, enjoying the physical movements and olfactory pleasure simultaneously through ‘scent layering’, where fragrances build up in layers according to the depth of the movements. After the exercise, there was a session to create a personal perfume of 30ml, allowing participants to take the experience's emotion into their daily lives.

The event was further enlivened by the participation of industry representatives, including Kim Bora, the CEO of Suipilates, and Lee So-ri, the CEO of Movimento, as well as many citizens interested in wellness culture.

Team leader Hong Seok-jun, who led the lecture, stated, “More and more people are seeking true ‘rest’ and ‘recovery’ rather than just simple strength training in their busy lives,” and added, “Following the Wellive Lounge event at the end of last year, we plan to continue delivering wellness values in various locations, regardless of the venue.”

Co-planner perfumer Ahn Sol remarked, “We focused on the core of Pilates and yoga, which is ‘breathing’. Participants show great satisfaction in moving away from the consumer approach of buying ready-made products to recording their emotions in scents and being involved in the creation process,” expressing aspirations for various concept expansions in the future.

As both the Pilates and perfumery industries face criticism of being ‘red oceans’ due to market saturation, the attention of the related industry is focused on how this attempt, combining expertise from both fields, will create fresh ripples in the wellness market.
