Kim Dong-min, Bupyeong District Councillor (Democratic Party of Korea·Bupyeong 2, 5, 6-dong, Bugae 1-dong, Ilshin-dong), has declared his candidacy for Incheon City Council in the upcoming local elections. Councillor Kim is preparing for a primary challenge in the Bupyeong District 2 constituency for the metropolitan council.
Councillor Kim recently announced on his Facebook that he has completed the registration application for the preliminary candidate qualification review for Incheon City Council. He also formalised his challenge for the metropolitan council in a media interview.
The Bupyeong District 2 constituency, where Councillor Kim has declared his candidacy, includes Bupyeong 2-dong, Bupyeong 5-dong, Bupyeong 6-dong, Bugae 1-dong, and Ilshin-dong, and is currently represented by Yu Kyung-hee, a councillor from the same party. This suggests that intra-party competition is inevitable in this electoral district.
Councillor Kim majored in economics at Howon University and has served as a local committee member of the Buhung Elementary School Operating Committee and as the Youth Chairperson of the Democratic Party of Korea Bupyeong Gap.
In his legislative activities, he has served as the Chairperson of the Budget and Settlement Special Committee of the Bupyeong District Council since July 2024 and is currently active as the Vice Chairperson of the Administrative Welfare Committee. He has also participated in local policy research as the representative councillor of the 'Bupyeong Urban Brand Research Group'.
With Councillor Kim's declaration of candidacy, the competition within the party in the Bupyeong District 2 constituency is expected to intensify ahead of the local elections.
