Concerns have been raised that the name of the 'Michuhol Call Center', which is set to move into the Luwon Complex in Incheon Seo-gu, is causing confusion among local residents, making a name change urgent.
Kim Mi-yeon, a member of the Incheon Seo-gu Council (People Power Party, Gajung 1-3, Shin-hyeon Wonchang-dong), targeted the naming issue of major facilities relocating to the Incheon Luwon Complex during the policy planning department's report at the 278th temporary session held on the 3rd.
Through her inquiry, Kim asked, "The 'Michuhol Call Center' is moving in alongside the Incheon Urban Corporation and the Environmental Corporation to the Incheon Luwon Complex, but will the name remain unchanged?"
She emphasized, "Despite being a place that handles consultation work for the entire Incheon city, the current name 'Michuhol' evokes a specific autonomous district, Michuhol-gu, causing significant confusion for citizens. Especially since the call center is relocating to Seo-gu, a name change is essential to eliminate misunderstandings caused by the name."
Kim cited the establishment of Incheon's historical and identity as a basis for the name change. She stated, "Since 'Michuhol', which used to represent Incheon, has now become the name of a specific district, change is necessary. To elevate Incheon's status, we should consider historical names like 'Inju' or think of a new brand name that encompasses the entire Incheon city."
Additionally, Kim noted, "Our Seo-gu is also at a point where it is trying to break away from the defensive district naming convention, and this naming organization should occur alongside the relocation of large public facilities."
Kim urged the administration, saying, "The policy planning department should recognize this issue seriously and strongly recommend it to Incheon city. Since it is a facility entering the Seo-gu Luwon Complex, it should come in with a name that reflects the voices of Seo-gu residents."
In response, a district official replied, "We agree with the intent of the council member's proposal and will actively recommend a name change to Incheon city."
