"From Seniors to Aspiring Writers"... Yeonsu Library Offers Tailored Reading Support for All Generations

Incheon Metropolitan City Office of Education Yeonsu Library (Director Lee So-wook) presents tailored reading and cultural programs that encompass all generations, from fostering children's emotional development to improving literacy among the elderly and supporting citizen writers' debuts.

On the 20th, Yeonsu Library announced that it is recruiting participants for three main projects, including a senior reading club, to expand the reading culture among local residents and promote the value of 'Read, Walk, Write'.

The most notable program is 'Time to Become a Writer', which aims to cultivate citizens into official writers. This course goes beyond simple writing education and aims for author approval on the online writing platform 'Brunch Story'. Under the guidance of author Kim Nam-geum, it will start on the 10th of next month, allowing participants to experience the entire process of author debut, from essay writing to manuscript planning, with a focus on practical work.

The 'Senior Reading Club' for the elderly will also officially launch next month. It will be divided into 'Writing Friends' focused on basic literacy education tailored to seniors' interests and 'Book Friends' that engage in a wide range of reading activities together. The aim is to enhance the literacy of the elderly, who are often marginalized in the digital age, and support a vibrant retirement life.

The 'Heart Talk, Thought Bloom, Picture Book Class' for 2nd to 3rd graders focuses on emotional care for children starting the new school year. It combines reading activities that allow children to reflect on their feelings through picture books with sensory experience activities such as making handmade notebooks and creating terrariums. It will also propose ways of communication for children at a crucial stage of self-identity formation and peer relationship building.

Director Lee So-wook of Yeonsu Library stated, "The library is not just a place to borrow books but a hub for the local community where all generations can learn and grow together," and added, "We will continue to support residents generously so they can discover the joy of life and become writers who document their own stories."

The application periods for each program vary. The 'Picture Book Class' will start accepting applications on the 20th, while the 'Senior Club' and 'Writer Training Program' will begin accepting applications on the 23rd on a first-come, first-served basis.
