Park Soo-yeon, Michuhol District Council Member, "The Neutrality of Local Administration Must Be Strictly Maintained Ahead of Local Elections"

The need for political neutrality in local administration and management of public officials' actions was raised at the Planning and Administration Committee of the Michuhol District Council ahead of the local elections.

On January 28, at the first Planning and Administration Committee meeting of the 293rd extraordinary session, Council Member Park Soo-yeon (People's Power, Yonghyeon 5, Hakik 1, Gwangkyo, Munhak) stated, "I positively evaluate that welfare and donation culture are well operated in each district," while emphasizing, "Maintaining the neutrality of public officials is more important than anything else at this time before the local elections."

Council Member Park said, "I understand that various methods, including monitoring systems, are being operated in several districts, including Gwangkyo-dong, to honor donors and spread the culture of donations," and added, "Although the methods differ from district to district, they are generally well managed."

However, she pointed out, "The issue is not the welfare or donation projects themselves, but the possibility of actions that could lead to misunderstandings ahead of the elections," stating, "Even if public officials do not intend it, if specific actions or scenes spread through SNS, anyone can have political misunderstandings."

She continued, "The district heads should be fully aware of what situations are being discussed," and urged, "Please communicate sufficiently with the district heads at the department level to ensure that more thorough management and caution can be implemented ahead of the elections."

In response, the executive branch stated, "We will take note of the pointed issues and re-examine and manage the overall local administration."

Council Member Park also stated, "I highly appreciate that policies to honor donors have been established to activate donations in each district," and requested, "Please continue to ensure that these policies receive continuous feedback and are institutionally established."
