Bupyeong District Council Member Jeong Ye-ji Welcomes Expansion of Parking Lot Opening Project... Must Carefully Consider Resident Convenience Such as Electric Vehicle Charging

As the threshold for the parking lot opening and sharing project aimed at alleviating parking difficulties in Bupyeong's old downtown has been lowered, a proposal has emerged that detailed administration, such as convenience for electric vehicle charging, should support beyond simply securing parking spaces.

During the 4th Urban Environment Committee meeting of the 274th Bupyeong District Council held on the 2nd, Council Member Jeong Ye-ji (Democratic Party·Proportional) received major work reports from the Parking Management Division, Parks and Greenery Division, and the Facility Management Corporation while checking on livelihood issues.

Council Member Jeong positively evaluated the expansion of the 'Green Parking' and 'Private-led Parking Sharing Activation Project' by the Parking Management Division to include all buildings from single and multi-family homes, and the relaxation of resident consent requirements. He ordered, "As the parking difficulties in the old downtown areas like Galsan-dong are serious, please actively work on-site to ensure that church and public institution parking lots can be opened more proactively."

Regarding the electric vehicle charging facilities at the Galsan Station public parking lot, he stated, "While the legal standards are met, many residents are experiencing difficulties in actual charging due to long-term parked vehicles," and requested, "If financial conditions allow, please consider additional installation of chargers through a demand survey."

In relation to park maintenance, he emphasized the need to strengthen infrastructure in response to the climate crisis. Council Member Jeong welcomed the remodeling project for Donghwa and Hujeong Parks being advanced by two years from the original plan, but pointed out, "Since there have been habitual flooding issues during heavy rains, please carefully examine the drainage system, including connecting stormwater pipes, beyond just replacing facilities."

Meanwhile, Council Member Jeong expressed deep concern over the recent surge in discarded banners. According to data from the Facility Management Corporation, the amount of discarded banners is expected to increase from 750 kg in 2023 to 4,100 kg in 2025, more than a fivefold increase. He stated, "A clear analysis of the reasons for the rapid increase in banner waste is necessary," and emphasized, "Especially for provocative political banners placed near schools, the district should actively assess and take action to protect children's emotional well-being, similar to cases in other municipalities."

In response, relevant departments in Bupyeong District stated, "We will closely review and implement the issues raised, including demand surveys for residents' parking convenience, park drainage issues, and compliance with banner maintenance guidelines."
