The People Power Party on the 1st condemned President Lee Jae-myung for expressing a strong will for stringent real estate regulations, including the end of the tax exemption for multiple homeowners, stating, "You cannot control house prices with threats and intimidation." In contrast, the Democratic Party countered, saying, "They are politicising the government's willingness to resolve the issue."
Choi Bo-yoon, the chief spokesperson for the People Power Party, commented that President Lee has concluded that illegal activities are the cause of the overheating housing market and has unleashed threatening rhetoric aimed at homeowners, stating, "The provocative slogans that shake public opinion are highly inappropriate for a president." He continued, "The fastest and most realistic solution is to activate private-led redevelopment and reconstruction through regulatory relaxation," asserting that the idea of hoarding idle land while blocking the necessary solutions is no different from being satisfied with the 'real estate distribution' dictated by the government.
Leader Jang Dong-hyuk also pointed out on Facebook the inconsistency in President Lee's statements. He remarked, "Last December, he said there were 'no measures,' and suddenly he claims 'normalising real estate is easier than achieving a KOSPI of 5000.' Is this 'shouting economics' following 'hotel economics'?"
In response, the Democratic Party rebutted that the People Power Party is encouraging speculation. Kim Hyun-jung, the spokesperson for the Democratic Party, stated in a briefing, "The core of President Lee's message is the government's strong willingness to resolve the issue," dismissing the People Power Party's criticism as something that only raises doubts about their basic language comprehension, which would only elicit laughter from the public.
Kim, the spokesperson, accused the People Power Party of insisting on regulatory relaxation, stating, "The result has always been a speculative frenzy and the displacement of locals," asserting that clinging to past methods that have proven to be failures ultimately aims to pave the way for speculative capital.
