Park Soo-yeon, Member of the Michuhol District Council, Points Out Redundancy in 'Food Waste Reduction Device Support' Resident Participation Budget

Park Soo-yeon, a member of the Incheon Michuhol District Council (People Power Party, Yonghyeon 5, Hakik 1, Gwangkyo, Munhak), raised concerns about the redundancy of the existing general projects in relation to the operation of the resident participation budget at the district office, calling for thorough demand management.

During the 293rd extraordinary session of the Michuhol District Council's Planning and Administration Committee held on the 28th, Member Park pointed out that the 'Food Waste Reduction Device Support Project' was included in the resident participation budget (online proposal) items. This project is currently being implemented with a matching ratio of 50:50 between national and district funds by the Resource Circulation Division.

Member Park questioned, "Despite being a project already promoted by the existing Resource Circulation Division, what is the reason for it being separately allocated in the resident participation budget?" highlighting the ambiguity of the budget structure. In response, a district official stated, "Although there is a high level of public support, the existing budget is limited, so residents who wish for more support have directly proposed online to secure additional funding."

Member Park also expressed doubts about the efficiency of budget execution. He noted, "In past cases, the budget was slow to be exhausted until the second half of the year, and it was only completed after September," and questioned whether accurate data on actual applicants and unpaid amounts, rather than just a perception of popularity, had been secured.

The additional 30 million won increased through this resident participation budget will benefit a total of 100 people, with a maximum of 300,000 won each. Considering the nature of the project, which designates specific companies or items, Member Park urged for meticulous post-management and transparent operation to prevent waste of taxpayers' money.
