Jung Yu-jeong, Bupyeong District Councillor, "Expecting Global Leap for Bupyeong Folk Festival... Must Make Every Effort to Secure Budget"

Jung Yu-jeong, Bupyeong District Councillor (Democratic Party·Bupyeong 3-dong, Sangok 3·4-dong, Sipjeong 1·2-dong), welcomed the designation of the Bupyeong Folk Festival as a Cultural Tourism Festival for 2026-2027 and called for a globalisation strategy and thorough budget securing based on this milestone.

During the administrative welfare committee's report on the cultural foundation at the 274th Bupyeong District Council extraordinary session held on the 29th, Councillor Jung highlighted the achievement of the Bupyeong Folk Festival being selected as a Cultural Tourism Festival by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and focused on questioning the direction of the festival's development.

Councillor Jung expressed her joy at the good news of the Bupyeong Folk Festival being designated as a government-designated festival, stating, "I am very pleased to share this good news as we join forces with local members of parliament." She further emphasised, "This year marks the 30th anniversary of the festival, so it is essential to secure a budget and prepare accordingly to match the increased status of the festival."

According to the head of the cultural tourism department of Bupyeong District Office, with this designation, Bupyeong District has initially secured 40 million won in national funding, and currently, including 300 million won from the city and 500 million won from the district, a total budget of 840 million won has become available.

Councillor Jung particularly noted the upcoming application for the 'Global and Preliminary Global Festival' project scheduled for February 16. She stated, "With the 30th anniversary celebration approaching, there may be limitations with just the district budget," and urged, "Please actively engage in the global festival application, which can receive support of up to 800 million won, to resolve the budget shortfall and enhance the quality of the festival."

Additionally, Councillor Jung addressed the importance of inter-departmental communication during the report. She called for close cooperation between the cultural tourism department and the cultural foundation, expressing the council's commitment to making comprehensive efforts for the success of the festival.

In her concluding remarks, Councillor Jung stated, "I will do my utmost, along with my fellow councillors, to ensure that the Bupyeong Folk Festival can advance beyond Korea to become a global festival."
