Lee Yong-chang, Chairman of the Education Committee of the Incheon City Council (People Power Party, Seo-gu 2), emphasized the need for substantial improvement in the treatment of teachers and education administrative staff during a 5-minute free speech at the first plenary session of the 306th Incheon City Council temporary meeting held on the 27th.
The chairman stated, "It is important to express gratitude and respect for teachers who have dedicated themselves to the development of Incheon education for a long time, and for the education administrative staff who have supported this in the field, until the moment of their retirement, as it elevates the dignity of the educational community." He pointed out, "However, there are currently no separate consolation or encouragement programs or training programs for retired teachers."
He further suggested, "It is necessary to implement a new training program for retired teachers starting this second half of the year."
The chairman also mentioned the issue of support for the participation of disabled teachers in training. He introduced a case where a visually impaired English teacher was selected to participate in an overseas training program under the same conditions as non-disabled teachers, stating, "We need to establish a system that allows teachers with disabilities to challenge themselves more confidently and seize opportunities for growth."
To this end, he emphasized that "budget support for necessary assistance personnel, mobility, and accommodation convenience should be carefully prepared when disabled teachers participate in overseas or domestic training," adding, "Such support will lead to improved treatment and respect for teachers, ultimately having a positive impact on students as well."
The chairman urged, "We must ensure that society truly rewards the dedication of each and every staff member," and requested, "Please actively secure essential support budgets for the participation of disabled teachers in overseas and domestic training." He concluded by saying, "Let us create a future for Incheon education that everyone can be proud of by fostering an educational environment of growth without discrimination."
