Incheon Seo-gu Council Holds First Temporary Session in 2026 to Discuss Local Issues

The Incheon Seo-gu Council (Chairman Song Seung-hwan) opened its 278th temporary session on the 2nd, marking the start of its legislative activities for 2026. This session will address major local issues, including the opening of the Cheongna Sky Bridge and the division of Seo-gu, along with the review of various ordinances.

In particular, as Seo-gu is entering a historic transition period with the division into Seohae-gu and Geomdan-gu, the council has stated its focus on providing policy support for the stable launch of the two regions.

Chairman Song Seung-hwan stated in his opening speech, "The opening of the Cheongna Sky Bridge and the confirmation of its name are significant achievements that elevate the status of Seo-gu," and assured that the council would spare no effort in supporting the Cheongna Sky Bridge to establish itself as a landmark representing Seohae-gu.

He also emphasized that through responsible legislative activities for the division of Seo-gu, they would minimise inconvenience and confusion for residents and assist in the stable launch of the two regions.

This session is expected to handle a total of 15 agenda items, including the Incheon Seo-gu Office's major work plan for 2026. The first plenary session has already passed resolutions on the decision of the temporary session's duration and the attendance requests for the district mayor and relevant officials.

In the representative speech of the negotiating group, Song Yi, a member of the Democratic Party, mentioned the need to check financial burdens and living conditions during the division process, stating that they would continue legislative activities in areas closely related to the daily lives of residents, such as welfare, environment, and transportation.

Hong Soon-seo, a member of the People Power Party, emphasised the need for a division process without administrative gaps, the recovery of the livelihood economy, and the protection of vulnerable groups, pledging to support the stable launch and sustainable development of Seohae-gu and Geomdan-gu.

The 278th temporary session will last for 10 days and is expected to conclude with the second plenary session on the 11th.
