The '500,000 Wildflower Road Creation Project' being promoted by Bupyeong-gu should not focus solely on the quantity planted, but rather needs to ensure a solid operation by increasing the survival rate of the plants and considering the working environment of the management staff.

At the 4th Urban Environment Committee meeting of the 274th Bupyeong District Council held on the 2nd, Councillor Hong Soon-ok (Independent·Galsan 1·2-dong, Samsan 1-dong) made this statement through the main work report of the Parks and Greenery Department. Councillor Hong sharply pointed out the gap between the project plan and actual execution based on the responses to previous district questions.

Councillor Hong stated, "Last year, it was reported that 160,000 flowers would be planted in Jangsu Mountain and Hope Mountain, but in reality, only about 93,000 were planted," and criticized, "The project entity must clearly check how many flowers survive and bring joy to the residents, rather than focusing on the symbolic number of 500,000 flowers."

In particular, Councillor Hong expressed concern about the treatment and workload of the forest management staff who directly plant flowers and manage the forest paths. He said, "We must carefully monitor to ensure that the management staff, who are balancing the maintenance of forest paths and the planting of wildflowers, do not become overburdened," and urged, "Find ways for many residents to participate in the project process so that this project does not degenerate into a one-time event that merely fills a quantity."

In response, the head of the Parks and Greenery Department explained, "Last year, the quantity decreased somewhat compared to the plan due to fluctuations in the purchase price of wildflowers," and added, "This year, we will plant daffodils and gold bags in a timely manner by June and ensure thorough post-management." He also mentioned, "We will consider ways for resident participation, such as holding a festival in conjunction with the nearby administrative welfare centre during the blooming period of the autumn chrysanthemum."

In his concluding remarks, Councillor Hong referred to the 'Urban Wind Path Forest' project, which was cited as a past failure, and emphasized, "Please make efforts to ensure that past failures do not lead to a waste of budget."

Bupyeong-gu's '500,000 Wildflower Road' was initiated with the intention of embodying the hopes of 500,000 residents of Bupyeong-gu, and this year, the project is expected to continue focusing on the areas around Cheolma Mountain and Hambong Mountain.
