Incheon City Council Construction and Transportation Committee Discusses Activation of Wooden Architecture for Carbon Neutrality

The Incheon City Council Construction and Transportation Committee (Chairman Kim Dae-jung) held a forum titled ‘Policy Forum on Activating Wooden Architecture for Achieving Carbon Neutrality’ on the 28th in the city council meeting room.

This forum was organized to examine the potential for activating wooden architecture in the construction sector in response to the national task of addressing the climate crisis and achieving carbon neutrality, and to share domestic and international policy cases and technological trends to explore future directions for institutional improvement and the role of local councils.

The forum was attended by Chairman Kim Dae-jung, experts in architecture and structural fields, relevant public officials, and overseas experts invited from Austria and Japan, who presented and discussed the wooden architecture policies and advanced cases from their respective countries.

The overseas experts focused their presentations on the policies of various countries regarding mid- and high-rise wooden construction technology, structural safety measures, and fire response standards, and the participants shared their opinions on the applicability in Korea and the institutional improvement tasks based on this.

Additionally, discussions were held on legal and institutional issues related to the wooden architecture bills pending in the National Assembly, the direction of policy promotion at the local government level, and measures for ordinance improvement and budget support.

Chairman Kim Dae-jung stated, “The construction sector has a high proportion of carbon emissions, and wooden architecture can be an important policy alternative for achieving carbon neutrality,” and added, “The contents presented at this forum will be continuously supported by the Construction and Transportation Committee to ensure they are practically reflected in legislative activities and administration, such as ordinance review and budget deliberation.”
