Shin Chung-sik, a member of the Incheon City Council (Independent, Seo-gu 4), recently attended the opening ceremony of the ‘23rd National Disabled Winter Sports Championships’ held in Pyeongchang, Gangwon Province, and conveyed messages of encouragement and support to disabled athletes and officials on the 28th.

On that day, Shin stated, “I sincerely support the tenacity and determination of disabled athletes,” and added, “For the past two years, I have been particularly focused on disabled sports and have worked to expand and activate both elite and daily life sports.” He continued, “I will do my utmost to ensure that practical policy support can be implemented, not just words.”

This competition features teams from 17 cities and provinces across the country competing in seven events, including skiing, ice hockey, and curling, aiming to expand the base of disabled sports and increase opportunities for sports participation. In Incheon, a team of 70 athletes is participating in six events.

Shin has been working in collaboration with the Incheon Disabled Sports Association to develop support policies that reflect on-site opinions, such as expanding the pool of disabled athletes and improving access to sports facilities. He has also continuously worked to strengthen the institutional foundation for spreading the values of inclusion and solidarity through sports.

Shin stated, “I will spare no support at the level of the Incheon City Council to ensure that disabled sports can establish itself as an important pillar of social integration.”
